Prof. LIU Xiliang published the paper "Should Financial Institutions be Environmentally Responsible in China? Facts, Theory and Evidence" (Liu Xiliang, Wen Shuyang) inEconomics Research Journal, 2019. In this paper, he points out that China's development has entered a new era, green development is now cherished by people, and green finance is widely concerned. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has definitely listed the prevention and control of environmental pollution as one of the "three critical battles". How to deal with the relationship between environment and economic development and improve the quality of economic growth is the core issue of China's economic development in the future. Based on the current environmental pollution problem in China, this paper puts forward the issue of whether financial institutions should bear the environmental responsibility by combining the theory of sustainable growth, green finance, and corporatesocial responsibility. Then, it discusses the environmental responsibility of financial institutions in the framework of economic growth theory and links corporate social responsibility with green growth theory, which provides a new idea for exploring the theoretical basis of green finance. This paper proves that the credit decisions of financial institutions have a significant influence on the quality of economic growth, gives empirical evidence accordingly, and then indicates that the development of green finance and reasonable environmental responsibility are important means to support the improvement of economic growth quality, and also an important direction for the future development of China's financial institutions. In addition to grasping the industry flow of financial resources, supporting clean technology transformation, implementing active post loan management, and developing targeted green financial products according to the types of pollutants are all conducive to improving the efficiency of financial institutions in undertaking environmental responsibility.
